2025 National Championships round-up
All the big stories and a full result rundown of the national championships that took place all over the world
For emerging cycling nations, the national championships can be the most important race week of the year.
It’s an opportunity to score vital UCI points to improve in the UCI nations ranking - which feeds into selection criteria for World Championships and Olympic Games - and of course it’s a chance for the best riders in the country to compete against one another. For many, it’s the highest-level race they will do all season.
You have probably already seen some of the bigger headlines across the European national championships that took place over the last week, so I won’t repeat any of that. Below is a run-down of the biggest stories and all the results of the national championships that took place outside of Europe in the last week (or two). Scroll down for a full list of results.
The big stories
Some of the first results to come in from national champs week were from the Indian Ocean as Mauritius held there competition a week earlier than most. Mauritius’ two professional riders showed their class in the TT as Kim Le Court-Pienaar and Alexandre Mayer won the women’s and men’s titles. Le Court-Pienaar would also take the road race the day later, but Mayer was pipped in a small group sprint by Torea Celestin.
The Afghanistan women’s national championships took place as part of the French nationals, with separate results. It was the first time that an Afghan national championships has taken place since the UCI hosted the event at the headquarters in Aigle in 2022. 49 riders took part three years ago, but only four participated in the 2025 event: Fariba Hashimi, Yulduz Hashimi, Zahra Razayee and Samira Ehrari. The young Hashimi sister, Fariba, won the time-trial over Yulduz by 1:50 before taking the road title by more than five minutes, showing why she is so highly-rated.
Young Eritrean Nahom Zeray continued his excellent season racing in the colours of Japanese continental team JCL UKYO by winning the elite national championships road race. Zeray escaped with the experienced Meron Teshome and it appeared that the youngster took the win through a gentleman’s agreement. Lidl-Trek’s Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier won the time-trial ahead of Henok Mulubrhan.
Haoyu Su, the sole Chinese representative in the WorldTour in 2025, was unable to take home the Chinese TT title. The XDS-Astana rider finished four seconds behind TT specialist and now three-time winner Xue Ming. “Alex (Dowsett) made a super aero and efficient position for me, so I could push more power with less drag,” Su said on the team’s website afterwards. “I sticked to the pacing strategy and really gave my everything. Loosing just four seconds to the first place was a pity. What I need to do is to keep improving and I can get it back next time.” Su also missed out on the road race title as Chengshuo Miao secured that title for a second time in his career. Su was second again, finishing 41 seconds down on Miao.
Several UCI World Cycling Centre riders put in strong performances during their national championships. Tunisian Mohamed Aziz Dellai won both titles, his second career victory in each. Ethiopian Amanuel Tesfay, who raced with the WCC at the Tour du Rwanda, was a strong fourth in the Ethiopian time-trial, around half a minute away from the win.
Team Amani also had a very successful national championships campaign, winning titles in Rwanda and Uganda through Xaverine Nirere, Samuel Niyonkuru, Charles Kagimu and Mary Aleper.
