It may be mid-October, but many many riders are still without contracts for the 2026 season.

Since Global Peloton’s last transfer update, we have learned more about the now almost-confirmed merger between Intermarché-Wanty and Lotto, as well as the demise of the Arkéa-B&B Hotels team. Both mean that the market is flooded with talent, especially on the men’s side. The logical conclusion is that dozens of riders will fail to secure pro contracts for 2026 and will be forced to drop down a level or retire from the sport altogether. It’s a challenging time.

It’s particularly difficult for riders who come from outside of Europe, many of whom need professional contracts in order to apply for visas to remain long term. The situation is precarious for many riders.
