Pro teams head to Asia in search of UCI points ahead of rule change
Astana-Qazaqstan fighting for WorldTour survival while Burgos BH dominate Chinese races
It’s crunch time for WorldTour and ProTeam squads in the men’s peloton. The race is on for several teams to secure their eligibility to compete in the biggest races of the world. For some teams, that battle has taken them to Asia in the past few weeks.
2025 will be the last of the three-year WorldTour cycle and teams are scrambling to get into the top-18 in the UCI team rankings by the end of next year. The situation is dire for Astana-Qazaqstan, who currently languish in 21st, almost 4000 points from safety.

The focus on UCI point farming is just as acute for many ProTeams, who will need to place in the top-40 in the rankings to be eligible to race Grand Tours in 2025. Next season, that target will stretch even further, with teams needing to place in the top-30 to be able to race in the 2026 Grand Tours. Corratec are currently out of the Grand Tour places next year, while the likes of Euskaltel-Euskadi are in a precarious position.
