Global Peloton’s new schedule:
Fortnightly free #GPNews on Tuesdays - newsletter style, starting next week
Weekly paid posts - analysis, exclusive news, stories, global race reports/previews
Ad hoc extra free posts - rider interviews, news and more
Hi subscribers,
The last two-and-a-half years of writing Global Peloton have been nothing but a joy. In that time, I’m proud to have shined a light on parts of the sport that never get media airtime and to have interviewed some of the biggest names in global cycling, including Kim Le Court and Merhawi Kudus, as well as telling untold stories such as the Indian racer who spends every summer in the Belgian Kermesse scene. The best thing about it though has been connecting with all of you.
I want Global Peloton to exist years into the future. For that to happen, I need to make a few changes, and ask for your continued and additional support.
Roughly 85% of the stories I’ve produced for Global Peloton so far has been free to read. That’s by intention, because I do this with a mission to help the sport grow in Africa, Asia, the Americas and elsewhere. I will continue to create free content on Global Peloton, that will never change.
However, as a freelance journalist, I need to make some changes to make Global Peloton more sustainable in the long-term. I know a lot of people complain about paywalled content, but the reality is if you want independent journalism that covers unique, important things that you like to read, it takes time and financial support. I want to be able to give more time to do just that with Global Peloton for years to come.
For that to happen, I would love it if more of you would consider becoming paid subscribers to Global Peloton. I’m so grateful to those of you who have supported me in this way, some since the very beginning. To keep Global Peloton on the road, I need more of you! If you’d prefer to add a one-off contribution, you can do so here.
It’s also been great to read through your responses to a recent survey, where you’ve been telling me more about what you’d like to read on Global Peloton. I’m hearing that you want more interviews, perspectives on cycling and sportswashing, and reports on global races. If you still want to tell me what you think, you can!
So what will the new schedule look like?
GPNews
You may have noticed that some of my free posts are in more of a newsletter style, with a short story followed by other global cycling news and stories you can read and a global race round up. That is going to continue with some extra pizazz, and will always remain free to read.
Randomly dotted in the schedule before, the newsletter format will now happen every two weeks on a Tuesday, starting next week. It will bring together every piece of news I can find on Global cycling within that fortnightly period, with some added features. The title of these posts will always begin with #GPNews and the date.
Weekly Paid Posts
These posts will be just for paid subscribers and will include exclusive news stories, racing analysis and reporting of global races.
Extra free posts
Global Peloton’s mission to share the stories of cycling beyond its traditional heartlands remains. To that end, most rider interviews will remain free, allowing a greater number of people to learn more about their incredible stories, to encourage them to follow their journeys in the sport. I’ll also continue to cover breaking news for free when that news is not exclusive to Global Peloton.
I hope you’ll continue to join me as we continue to explore the unseen world of global professional cycling. I’ve got lots of exciting things planned over the next six months, especially as we build up to the World Championships in Kigali.
If you want to contact me privately with any questions or comments, I’d love to hear from you. Email globalpeloton@substack.com, or send me a message.
Thanks for reading,
Dan
