Merhawi Kudus remains a long way off from racing his bike again after crashing at the GP de Marseillaise on the 2nd of February.

The Eritrean signed for Burgos-Burpellet-BH this season after a year away from the professional ranks. He sustained several fractures after hitting the ground on a descent in the opening race of the French UCI calendar.

A team statement at the time said that Kudus had suffered “several fractures at the level of the costal arches, lumbar vertebrae and sacrum, as well as a pulmonary contusion with hemo-pneumothorax.”

Kudus was rushed to hospital and spent time in intensive care in Marseille. A few days after the race, he was moved to the Hospital Recoletas in Burgos to be looked after by team doctors. A team representative told Global Peloton that he was discharged last week and transferred to a hotel in Burgos near the team’s headquarters.
